What Hoover wanted was to diminish the influence of radical students over American youngsters. Hoover wanted to erase those radical ideas from being expanded over other groups of young Americans.
Dissident activities and anti-war protests were not on the agenda of the US federal government.
So Hoover tried to discredit those radical organizations. He falsified letters that were sent to newspapers, such as the case of a supposed father of a student from Oklahoma State University.In the letter, there were accusations of criminal actions perpetrated by students organizations in Oklahoma University and Oklahoma State.The particular targeting group was the Students for a Democratic Society.
